International Watch Company - Interational Watch Company (also known as IWC Schaffhausen) is a precision watch company founded in 1868 by Florentine Ariosto Jones, an American engineer from Boston, Massachusetts. Located in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, IWC Schaffhausen is notable for being the only major Swiss watch factory located in eastern Switzerland, as the majority of the well-known Swiss watch manufacturers are located in western Switzerland.
Automatic watch - An automatic watch (also called a self-winding watch) is a mechanical watch whose mainspring is wound by the motion of the wearer's arm, instead of having to be wound manually every day. Whereas a quartz watch is powered by electricity, a mechanical watch is powered by a mainspring which must be rewound for the watch to keep time.
Paul Revere's Ride - On April 18, 1775, Paul Revere, William Dawes, and Samuel Prescott kept watch in Boston for the approach of British troops the day before the Battle of Lexington and Concord at the outset of the American Revolution. A system had been set up whereby a scout in the bell tower of a church would hang lanterns to indicate whether the British advance was by land or sea.

Two years later in 1869 O'Reilly escaped with an aid of American whaler Henry Hathaway and ended up in Boston, where he became a newspaperman, for the New York Herald, but also leader of Clan Na Gael, an organization that supported armed insurrection in Ireland. In 1873 O'Reilly and Devoy received a smuggled letter from imprisoned Fenian James Wilson, who was among those the British dared not release. They were sent along the last convict ship HMS Hougoumont and landed to Fremantle in January 1867 and were moved to the penal colony in Australia. Plotters bought a three-masted whaling bark Catalpa... Among them were leading figures John Devoy was paroled, among others, on condition that he settled outside Ireland, and moved to the Establishment Prison. He asked them to contact his son-in-law, whaling captain George Smith Anthony, who agreed to help.
